For the month of June, DUMB is teaming up with Black Button Distillery to showcase their Citrus Forward Gin. I have the honor of posting the first drink and I am hoping this Fitzgerald adaptation encourages you to come back to enjoy all of our Citrus Gin inspired cocktails.

Ingredients:

With the bottle of their Citrus Forward Gin in hand, I paged through my favorite drink book and the Fitzgerald caught my eye. I immediately made the cocktail without any changes to the classic. After a few sips, I realized the Angostura bitters would take away from the citrus notes in the Black Button gin. In my first variation, I took out the bitters, but I felt like it was missing something. On my next version, I added lemon bitters to tie the drink back together. It tasted pretty good, but being 3 drinks in on a Tuesday night, I decided it was time to go to bed. For the rest of the week, I experimented with different ratios and created my new favorite drink to enjoy outside on a warm summer evening.

Method:

  • Pour all 4 ingredients in a mixing glass
  • Add ice and stir
  • Strain into a chilled martini glass
  • Garnish with a lemon peel

I enjoy this drink up, but the classic Fitzgerald is served on the rocks. If you are feeling saucy, try both and let me know which one you prefer. Dave, Michael and Blaine are still hard at work perfecting their Black Button Citrus Gin cocktails, so check back soon.
