I went to the liquor store last weekend to buy some supplies for St. Patrick’s Day. I was walking up and down the aisles (we have a pretty awesome liquor store) and naturally ended in front of the Irish Whiskeys. With a fifth of Jameson in hand, I had no idea what sort of direction to go with this cocktail. I am limited by how I have enjoyed Jameson in the past: on the rocks or as a shot. As you can see, it’s a very short list.
With this martini, I really wanted the Jameson to stand out, while still being complimented. I have 2 shots of Jameson in a shaker and bartenders block on the brain (not sure if it’s a thing, but I’m considering a trademark). I’m opening and smelling every bottle in my liquor cabinet in hopes of finding an answer. 50 texts later, Blaine and I keep thinking Old Fashioned, so I grab the orange bitters. A splash of Cointreau and a few drink tests by our friend Dave P, a martini miraculously materializes.
The List:
- 2 oz Jameson
- ¼ oz Cointreau
- Orange Bitters
- Lemon
The Moves:
- Combine the Jameson and Cointreau in a shaker
- Add a dash of Orange Bitters
- A couple drops of lemon juice
- Add ice, shake and pour in a chilled martini glass
- Float a teased lemon peel
This is a cocktail to enjoy on those colder days and of course when you are wearing your finest green attire.
Happy St. Patrick’s Day!
