My husband started making this cocktail a few years back, and over the years it had gotten lost. In reviving it, I thought, can it be purple without using blue curacao? I mean, what is that stuff? Gives me the chills. Turns out frozen blueberries do the trick, even if the color is perhaps more magenta. But at least it’s not pickling your insides! Well maybe the booze is doing that, but drawing that line is so difficult.

An unexpected bonus is that the frozen blueberries replace ice, chilling the drink without diluting it. This makes the drink a bit strong, but I have a remedy for that as well.

In a shaker, stir together:

  • 2 oz vodka
  • 1 oz peach liquer
  • 1/2 cup frozen blueberries
  • Squeeze lime

Let sit for five minutes to chill the spirits. If you don’t prefer a strong drink, muddle the blueberries a bit to release the juice. Using a fine mesh strainer, pour into a martini glass (makes one drink).

Cheers!

PS, if you’re a cosmopolitan fan, I would give this a shot! Try something new – it’s 2015!!

  1. Not having frozen blueberry’s only frozen mango and raspberry pieces and not a lime in site, I made my own version of Purple WOO WOO! Followed the recipe but used mango/raspberry combo and topped with a splash of champagne. Not only beautiful to look at but tasted marvelous!
